Charlie Dempsey is best known to have refused to vote in FIFA’s final round of voting for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. His move eventually saw the competition being awarded to Germany rather than South Africa.

The 2006 FIFA World Cup was later on awarded to South Africa but Charlie Dempsey could not live on to watch. He died at the age of 87.
