William Scott Goldberg was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 27, 1966. He had Jewish heritage, which meant he had to go through the Jewish ritual, Bar Mitzvah, when he was thirteen. Her parents are Jed Goldberg, a Harvard-educated gynecologist and obstetrician, and Ethel Goldberg, a musician (her mother plays the violin) and a horticulturist. He is the last child in the family. He has three siblings, two older brothers named Steve and Michael Goldberg and an older sister named Barbara Goldberg.
He attended Thomas Edison High School, Tulsa, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school, he continued his education at the University of Georgia where he earned a degree in psychology. Although Bill Goldberg is known today as a wrestler, football was his first love, he fell in love with football at a very young age. Bill Goldberg played football in high school and college. His impressive high school play earned him a college football scholarship to the University of Georgia, where he later played for the Bulldogs (the University of Georgia football team).
Career Synopsis
Upon graduation, Bill Goldberg was selected as the 1990 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams with the 302nd overall selection (11th round). His professional football career also saw him play for the CFL Sacramento Gold Miners and the Atlanta Falcons. He was also on the Carolina Panthers’ roster for the 1995 season despite having never played for them.
A career-ending injury would see him leave the NFL without any level of accomplishment. And while he was content to have played in the NFL (a lifelong dream), his regret was that he didn’t achieve anything in the game he loved so much. He ventured into the wrestling world in 1997 after the idea was suggested to him while in rehabilitation from his injury.
Goldberg wrestled in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) between 1996 and 2002, All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) between 2002 and 2003, before joining World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in March 2003 for a year and competing with stars such as Chris Jericho, The Rock and Triple H. In 2018, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He took a brief hiatus from WWE in 2005 and worked in mixed martial arts (MMA) where he served as a commentator.
